June 20, 2025
North Dakota Tornado Outbreak and Derecho
A total of 7 tornadoes touched down across North Dakota on June 20, 2025. The highest rated one is currently an EF3 that caused 3 fatalities just east of Enderlin, North Dakota. That tornado is a preliminary EF3 that could be upgraded to an EF4 in the near future. The derecho also produced wind gusts of 111 mph and 101 mph in two different areas. There have been arguments among the meteorological community on if this was a wake low, meaning a storm that created it’s own low pressure area like a hurricane, or a sting jet, which is a storm that had a rather large rear inflow. Both have their merits, either way, it was a strong storm.

Santa Catarina Hot Air Balloon Crash
On June 21, 2025, a hot air balloon in Santa Catarina, Brazil crashed killing 8 of 21 people on board. Approximately 2 minutes into the flight, a fire started on board in the basket. The pilot lowered the balloon to a level where people could jump out to safety but 8 individuals failed to do so and with the weight of the passengers gone, the hot air balloon quickly rose before crashing into a wooded area killing all 8 still aboard. The cause of the fire is not currently known.
Algerian Football Stadium Collapse
On June 21, 2025, as MC Alger was defending their football club league title, a security fence on the upper section of the stands for the 5 July Stadium in Algiers, Algeria collapsed. As the final whistle was blowing, a large amount of people moved forward on the upper balcony to celebrate which caused a security fence to collapse dropping them down on the lower section. A total of 3 people were killed and over 80 people were injured in the disaster.
Lake Tahoe Boat Disaster
On June 21, 2025, a boat carrying 10 people capsized during a storm on Lake Tahoe. Two of those aboard were rescued and 8 people died during the incident. The capsizing happened during a sudden storm that produced waves 6-8 feet tall on Lake Tahoe in California.
June 22, 2025
New York State Tornado
An EF1 tornado touched down in Oneida county New York killing 3 individuals. Two 6 twin 6 year old girls were killed when the tornado caused a tree to fall on their house collapsing the roof on them. It also killed a women in another home when a tree fell on her home. This was the third confirmed tornado in the state of New York in June.
Chios Wildfire
Several wildfires that started on Friday June 20 on the island of Chios in Greece combined into one large wildfire that has burned approximately 10,000 acres of mostly uninhabited area. Greek officials have arrested one woman in connection with a discarded cigarette that was allegedly dropped by her as observed by several witnesses.
June 24, 2025
Tropical storm Andrea
An area way out in the Atlantic ocean organized enough briefly on Tuesday June 24 to become the first named Atlantic storm of the season. Tropical storm Andrea is the true definition of a fish storm and will fall apart before impacting any land.
China Flooding
Monsoon season has begun in China with significant flooding observed throughout the area. One truck driver was driving across a bridge when it collapsed trapping him in his cab hanging off the edge. He was eventually rescued by rescue workers.
Colombia Landslide
Significant rains in northwest Colombia called a massive landslide near the city of Medellin burying several homes in mud and debris. As of right now, 11 people have been confirmed to be killed and at least 15 people are still missing. Search and rescue efforts are ongoing.
June 25, 2025
Grand Island, Nebraska Flooding
Significant flooding occurred in Grand Island, Nebraska with the city receiving approximately 6.5 inches of rainfall in just a few hours, causing massive rivers to run through the streets trapping many people in their homes and vehicles. They received more rain in 3 hours than they normally do in an entire month. As of right now there have been no injuries reported but multiple water rescues had to be performed.
June 26, 2025
Meteorite over the Southern United States
Around 12:15 PM a large explosion was seen and heard over Atlanta, Georgia and into South Carolina, North Carolina, Virginia, and Tennessee with multiple witnesses seeing a large fireball streaking towards the ground. The meteorite entering the atmosphere was observed on GOES 19 Geostationary Lightning Mapper as seen below as the bright green flash in northwest Georgia over the Atlanta area.
